Probably, buying a camera drone finds a spot in the list of every tech geek. Hey, why not? These tiny miny copters do more than just flying in the air. They make your traveling diaries photo-filled. Ask about the features and you’ll be baffled to know about them. So which drone to buy? The new owners of drones are often disappointed after their first flight, because of the low autonomy of their toy. Expectations vs Reality? Well, no more! Here’s your drone buying guide comprising the 4 most important features.
THE BATTERY RUN TIME
There is no miracle to fly the camera drones correctly, the drone must be lightweight, and its battery is therefore usually should not be huge. In General, do not expect to exceed 10 minutes, or even a quarter of an hour’s flight. This is why you might want to opt for a device whose battery is interchangeable. You can thus buy new and replace the empty battery, once it discharges. Otherwise, you will need to wait for a recharge of battery between each flight.
THE QUALITY OF THE CAMERA
There are countless cheap camera drones to shoot the aerial view, through an on-board camera. But beware, because these are generally not of excellent quality. The less expensive drones often content themselves with a simple VGA camera. No need to hope for a camera drone with 300,000 pixels in the sensor. The image quality is not up to the appointment: fading colors, very low frame rate, images wince abounds, even on the mid range model.
No need to invest if you want to discover how your garden looks from the sky, obviously. On the other hand, to make excellent quality plans, you need to go either through a professional drone (and very expensive, like DJI Inspire 1), or acquire a device to integrate a camera for action – generally a GoPro. There are a few exceptions, such as the brand new Parrot Bebop, which integrates a camera of excellent invoice, beautifully stabilized.
CONTROLS AND FLIGHT
Aeromodelling experts call them “RTF” for Ready To Fly. This term describes the camera drones supplied with a remote control and therefore ready to take off as soon as they came out of their box. Remember, some drones are delivered without any delivery charges. The remote control is very important and it must be the most comfortable and the most accurate part of the drone. Camera drones have a characteristic and that is they can be manipulated with your smartphone or tablet, thanks to a dedicated app. It’s fun, but beware, it is far from being as accurate as a true remote control.
Another point to determine is that what do you want to see through the ‘eyes’ of your drone? With a Parrot, it’s simple, the app also sends you in real time the image captured by the camera. Finally, to enter the world of ” FPV ” (first person view) for cheap, one can also pay for a drone with a camera whose image will be replicated on the screen of the remote control, as Husban FPV X4. The video is not very good, but it’s perfect for beginners or for children!
SPEED AND SCOPE
Also, be aware that there are more “sporty” drones than other drones. Some devices are able to make exceptional acceleration, of acrobatic figures, etc. They are most fun to drive than drones dedicated to shooting – and usually much cheaper! – But beware, they are also a bit difficult to master. Still, if your goal is mainly to get it on flying, no need to spend a fortune.
